Caen & the D-Day beaches

Seminar in Caen: rooms, hotels and turnkey organisation

Working time and a symbolic dimension: the Memorial and direct access to the D-Day beaches.

Introduction

Caen, the seminar destination between sea, remembrance and historic centre

Are you organising a seminar in Caen and looking for the right venue, the right hotel and someone to coordinate it all? Normandy DMC has organised corporate events in Caen for more than 20 years: selection and booking of seminar rooms, hotels, catering, transfers and activities. A single point of contact, a single quotation, complete management of logistics. And a particularity that only Caen offers in Normandy: the possibility of including the D-Day beaches in your programme.

Caen brings together three assets that few cities of this size have together. First, dense heritage: despite the destruction of summer 1944, the city has 86 listed or registered historic monuments, from the 11th century to today, including the ducal castle, the Abbaye aux Hommes and the Abbaye aux Dames. Then professional capacity, with a congress centre and an exhibition park that absorb large formats. And finally immediate proximity to the coast, the D-Day beaches, Deauville, Cabourg, the Pays d’Auge and the Suisse normande.

In practice, this means a seminar in Caen can be held in the city centre in a complete urban setting, then switch in about thirty minutes to the sea or the D-Day sites for the second day. Few Normandy destinations allow this switch without losing half a day in transport.

Seminar rooms in Caen: from executive committee to a congress of 1,000 people

Caen has, in the very heart of the city, a complete range of rooms, from small committee to congress. Here are the venues we use most often.

The congress centre and the exhibition park

Caen’s congress centre offers 4,000 m² of flexible space and can host up to 1,000 people. The exhibition park, with its 32 hectares, takes over for trade-show formats and very large gatherings. For smaller formats, the chamber of commerce and industry has rooms from 18 to 500 m², suited to study days and committees.

For a regional-scale congress or convention, see our page dedicated to organising congresses and conventions in Normandy.

A memorial site with auditoriums

This site has 3 auditoriums, the largest of which holds up to 360 people. It is a seminar venue apart: working in a museum devoted to 20th-century history gives a plenary a particular resonance, and the site makes it possible to move naturally on to a discovery of the D-Day beaches in the afternoon.

Unusual rooms

For a spectacular convention or an artistic evening, a performance hall seats nearly 7,000 in show configuration. The conservatoire provides an 879-seat auditorium with a 200 m² stage, an ideal format for a plenary followed by a staged presentation. A venue dedicated to music adds concert halls and rehearsal and recording studios, which we use for musical team building formats. An art museum set in the heart of a château, in a green setting, hosts receptions and culturally oriented seminars.

Châteaux and venues with character at the gates of Caen

A few minutes from the city, a former late-18th-century flour mill offers rooms with character from 50 to 300 m², in the middle of a one-hectare wooded park beside the Orne. A listed historic estate, and a 19th-century château on a 10-hectare park, offer the private setting that executive committees look for. Hotels for your seminar in Caen

Caen has a large and varied hotel stock, covering both the 100-person residential seminar and the 12-person executive committee.

City-centre chains and 4-star hotels

The major brands offer 3- and 4-star hotels combining good-standard contemporary rooms and flexible lounges directly on site. It is the simplest solution for a residential seminar: plenary, lunch, overnight stay and dinner in the same place, with no transfer.

Boutique and gourmet addresses

For a tighter or more memorable format, Caen has traditional and boutique hotels, some of whose restaurants appear in French and international guides. Some are at the foot of the ducal castle’s ramparts, others house a distinguished gourmet table. These are the addresses we favour for executive committees and VIP groups.

Work and relaxation: spa and thalassotherapy in Ouistreham

Several hotels in Ouistreham, with a spa or thalassotherapy centre, make it possible to combine working sessions with genuine recovery time. Ouistreham is a quarter of an hour from Caen via the canal: it is the formula we recommend for a two-day seminar where the second half-day should release the pressure.

A seminar between work and remembrance: Caen and the D-Day beaches

This is Caen’s particularity, and it is what decides many of our clients. Omaha Beach, Juno Beach, Sword Beach, Gold Beach and Arromanches are twenty to forty minutes from the city centre. A seminar can therefore devote its morning to work and its afternoon to a route through the sites of 6 June 1944, led by a historian guide.

We run these routes by coach or in vintage military vehicles. The register is adapted to the place: it is a supervised and respectful discovery, not an entertainment. For international groups, particularly British, Canadian and American, it is the highlight that stays in memory long after the seminar.

Discover the details of our routes on the D-Day beaches, as well as our pages on Omaha Beach, Juno Beach, Sword Beach, Gold Beach and Utah Beach.

Activities to include in your seminar in Caen

A two-day seminar needs a breathing space. In Caen, we most often include a wine-tasting workshop led by a sommelier, a cooking class with a culinary contest, a murder party with actors, an urban rally around the ducal castle and the Abbaye aux Hommes, or sand yachting in Ouistreham. The full catalogue is in our 2026 activities brochure. For a day entirely dedicated to team cohesion, see our team building in Caen page.

Our organisation: turnkey, a single quote

Three commitments structure our work on every seminar in Caen.

A turnkey seminar

Selection and booking of rooms and hotels, catering, technical equipment, transfers, activities, evening: everything is organised, contracted and coordinated by our team. You approve; you coordinate nothing. A dedicated project manager is on site on the day.

A single quote

A residential seminar in Caen easily involves around ten providers. Our proposal brings them together on a single quotation: one purchase order to issue, one invoice to process, one number to call.

Complete logistics management

Rooming lists, dietary requirements and allergies, staggered arrivals, weather fallback plan for outdoor activities, technical coordination: this is our contractual responsibility, not yours.

A Normandy agency that knows Caen

We work in Normandy, and only in Normandy, exclusively for companies and organisations. In a city like Caen, that means direct, long-standing relationships with venues, hoteliers and guides, and knowledge of constraints you only discover by operating: periods of high demand, real capacities by configuration, auditorium booking lead times.

Frequently asked questions

FAQ: Seminar in Caen

Which seminar rooms in Caen for which group size?+

For an executive committee or a study day of 10 to 50 people, hotel lounges, the chamber of commerce and venues with character such as the Moulin de Bully are suitable. From 50 to 360 people, the auditoriums of the Caen Memorial and the conservatoire take over. Beyond that, the congress centre hosts up to 1,000 people over 4,000 m² of flexible space, and the exhibition park covers trade-show formats.

Which hotels for a residential seminar in Caen?+

The 3- and 4-star chains in the city centre have flexible lounges that allow everything to be held on site: plenary, lunch, overnight stay and dinner. For a more memorable format, we favour boutique or gourmet hotels. To combine work and relaxation, several hotels in Ouistreham offer a spa or thalassotherapy.

Can we visit the D-Day beaches during a seminar in Caen?+

Yes, and that is Caen’s particularity. Omaha, Juno, Sword and Gold Beach are twenty to forty minutes from the city centre. A classic programme devotes the morning to work and the afternoon to a route led by a historian guide, by coach or in vintage military vehicles. It is the most memorable highlight for international groups.

How do you get to Caen for a seminar?+

About 2 hours by direct train from Paris-Saint-Lazare, the A13 from Paris, the A84 from Brittany, Caen-Carpiquet airport fifteen minutes away and the Ouistreham–Portsmouth ferry link for British groups. We organise group transfers from each of these points, including for staggered arrivals.

Do you also organise the activities and the evening?+

Yes. Wine-tasting workshop, cooking class, murder party, urban rally, sand yachting in Ouistreham, gala dinner or privatised evening: everything is included in the same quotation. For a day entirely dedicated to team cohesion, see our team building page in Caen.

Is Caen suitable for a large seminar?+

Yes. Between the congress centre (1,000 people), the exhibition park (32 hectares) and the Zénith (nearly 7,000 seats in show configuration), Caen absorbs formats that few Normandy cities can host. We organise events of up to 1,000 participants.
